Exercises for beginner tap dancers


I am so excited to share with you some simple effective exercises for beginner tap dancers or just someone who wants to give it a try.

If you are just starting out- GREAT!!! I am so glad you are here. A few things you are going to need are –

  • A pair of tap shoes – They can be pricey but honesty without them you are going to have really hard time creating the desired sounds. I particularly love Bloch spilt sole tap shoes. If you don’t want to spend money ask around often people have a pair of tap shoe in the attic from a show they a while ago.
  • Comfy clothes
  • A positive attitude
  • A phone or camera that you can video yourself with- that is one of the best ways to know what you are doing right and what you are missing


To begin with just watch the video through to give your mind a heads up of what to expect. Then give it a try. Don’t judge yourself. Focus on how awesome it is that you are trying something new, that you are developing a new skill!

Then most important part is…

PRACTICE! It is more important the frequency of your practice not the length. Decided on a length of time and then do it daily. SERIOUSLY, if you tap you feet every day for five minutes you will be AMAZED at how fast you learn.
