I have the privilege and honor of choreographing for children’s theatre here in Colorado. I work for a non-profit organization called Platte Valley Players. Each year the children’s theatre put on two shows.
We are unique in our approach to children’s theatre. We audition for two separate casts each musical season. A younger cast of 1st -5th graders and an older cast of 6th-9th graders. At each performance both shows are presented. The younger show is 30 minutes long followed by an intermission and then the older show being 55 minutes long.
When we started doing this we thought we were crazy and so did everyone else but it works and they turn out amazing. We are so passionate about giving as many kiddos the opportunity to perform and be on stage. Doing two shows provides double the amount of speaking and singing characters.
Our younger show was The Aristocats and the older show was Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory.
We auditioned our kiddos back at the end of November and then started rehearsals beginning of January. We had 10 weeks of rehearsals and then two weeks of shows. It was a roller coaster of all emotions and I am so thankful for the blessings I received from working with amazing women and being a part of some of the best kids there are out there.
So many rehearsals I found myself filled with light, love and joy.
